Organisational security · delivered digitally

Is your organisation prepared when the crisis comes?

Every day, many organisations deliver critical societal functions – goods and services – without realising it. Many have developed an emergency plan, sent people on courses and held an exercise. Even so, it is hard to imagine what it will actually be like when a crisis hits the organisation. It is not only your organisation that will be affected, but everyone who depends on what you deliver. That is why many organisations are an important part of total defence – without realising it.

For organisations in energy, telecom, transport, health, public administration and total defence.

The ORGSEC method

Resilience is built in everyday work

Plans, alerting systems and procedures are the foundation of all emergency preparedness, and most organisations have put a great deal of good work into them. When it really matters, though, it is the people who use the systems who determine how well they work: whether they have trained together, whether they trust each other, and whether they know what to do without having to search through a plan.

Operational capability is not created in the crisis; it is built in everyday work, through culture, training and leadership. That is where ORGSEC comes in – as an extension of the good work you already do in security and emergency preparedness.

ORGSEC is built into the organisation and adds security expertise in gradual layers – so that values, norms and a shared understanding of security take root naturally.

The method builds on organisational psychology and research on security, emergency preparedness and crisis management, combined with specialist security expertise, and has been developed through work with organisations across the Nordic region since 2008.

How resilience is built

  1. CultureThe values and norms that decide what actually gets done when nobody has time to look up the plan.
  2. TrainingTraining together, repeated over time, so that the people who must work together know each other and see the same picture when it matters.
  3. LeadershipLeaders who build trust in everyday work, and who can reflect on their own decisions while the situation unfolds.

How ORGSEC works

From framework to exercise

ORGSEC follows the sequence most organisations already know from their own security and preparedness work. The framework lays the foundation, the assessment shows where the organisation stands, knowledge and training build the capability, and the exercise tests whether the plan holds when put under pressure.

  1. Framework

ORGSEC's core principles for organisational security, derived from research on crisis management at individual and organisational level.

  2. Assessment

Built into the programme. Employees report their own experiences, and the organisation gets a picture of the safety culture as it actually is.

  3. Knowledge

Digital programmes for employees and managers, adapted to roles and risk areas.

  4. Training

Simulation for teams and individuals, where situational awareness and decisions are practised in a safe setting.

  5. Exercises

Digital tabletop exercises for the leadership team, where the plans meet a scenario and weaknesses become visible before they have consequences.

The framework works at four levels

  • Individual resilienceEach employee's ability to stand in the unexpected.
  • Shared situational awareness in teamsThat those who work together see the same picture when it matters.
  • Managers with a high degree of reflexivityManagers who assess their own decisions as the situation develops.
  • The cultureThe values, norms and perception of reality that decide what actually gets done.
